TWR celebrates Gospel impact on World Radio Day 2024

By February 13, 2024

International (MNN) — Today is World Radio Day! Commercial radio is over 100 years old in the United States and continues to thrive on the global stage. Analysts expect around half of the world’s population, or close to four billion people, will listen to the radio each month in 2024.

Radio is “one of the tools we use to help people get hope and to grow in their relationship with Jesus,” says Trans World Radio (TWR)’s Lauren Libby.

“We will be mentioning it (World Radio Day) on the air, and our broadcast has a potential listening audience of about 4.3 billion people on all continents.”

TWR uses mass media to provide relevant programming and discipleship resources around the globe. More about that here. Radio allows TWR to reach people in some of the world’s most difficult places.

“You look across the world today, and there’s a lot of conflict; it seems like everything goes upside down. How do you get in there? How do you provide encouragement?” Libby says.

“Radio goes across borders, and it can encourage believers and give hope to people who haven’t met Jesus yet.”

TWR doesn’t know every listener by name, but the Lord does. “It’s hard to measure when a person’s listening,” Libby says.

“With digital, you can say how many clicks, exposures, and downloads you have. But when it comes to on the air, it’s a little harder,” he continues.

Pray God will use TWR content to change someone’s life on World Radio Day.

“We were evaluating responses from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Middle East. And it is amazing to see the number of responses from the on-air programming.”

Partner with TWR here to support missionaries or projects near your heart. “Somebody said, ‘The Gospel is free, but the delivery system is pretty expensive,’” Libby says.
