China (MNN) — March 26 marks the 50th day of human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng's captivity by the Chinese government. He was carried off on February 4 by Chinese police officials and has not been seen since.
Gao Zhisheng's family has since escaped to the United States. With the help of China Aid Association and others, his wife and three children were able to quietly leave China and flee to safety. According to China Aid, Gao's wife is nervous that this may only increase the wrath of the Chinese government toward her husband.
This is not the first time Gao has been tortured. He was kidnapped and held hostage for over 50 days in 2007 as well. He was brutality shocked and tortured then, as it is suspected he is being now. (For a detailed background on Gao Zheshing and his long journey, click here.)
There are several things that you can do to help free Gao. China Aid and Voice of the Martyrs have created a petition to the Chinese government to release Gao from captivity and treat him with humanity, explaining that he loves his country and his people. To sign the petition, click here.
