Lebanon (MNN) — The United Nations warns of a “potential mass exodus” of Palestinian refugees as fighting escalates in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese terror group Hezbollah began attacking northern Israel in early October.
Pierre Houssney of Horizons International says, “They’ve been provoking Israel in solidarity to [Hamas and] what’s going on in Gaza. There have been skirmishes and shelling; at least 60 Hezbollah fighters have been killed.”
As a result, Houssney explains, “Villages along the Lebanon-Israel border are really dangerous places right now. A lot of people have been fleeing those villages to Beirut, or anywhere they can get away from that border area.”

Since the beginning of October, more than 29,000 people have been internally displaced in Lebanon.
Horizons International is providing emergency aid to displaced Lebanese in light of the developing crisis.
“We’re providing food portions for those who make it to the capital of Beirut,” says Houssney. “So far, we’ve provided at least 380 families with food aid. In the south, we have partner churches providing mattresses so the internally displaced people can sleep in the churches. That’s an opportunity to show the love of Christ to them.”
Unfortunately, he adds, “We have these new opportunities to help but don’t have a lot of resources to help.”
Based in Beirut, Horizons International partners with church networks to meet Lebanon’s overwhelming needs. Believers offer relief aid and the hope of Christ, but they can’t do it alone.
