India (MNN) – India is home to the largest population of Unreached People Groups and 424 living languages. 104 of these are the target of MegaVoice’s next audio player distribution project. JP from MegaVoice highlights the importance of faith coming by hearing.
“India remains primarily a non-literate nation. About 60 percent of India, I would say, if you were to give them a book to read, it’d be an incredibly difficult task,” he says.
In oral communities, Scripture is committed to memory and transmitted person-to-person.
“And now you have this little device that shows up and it speaks their language, which is not just a novelty, but it’s a realization that it’s not just the device that speaks my language, but it’s God who speaks my language.”
JP says the history and culture of communities are captured in language. When a language dies, a culture dies with it. Several Bible Translation agencies are committed to translating Scripture in India’s remaining languages, despite logistical, linguistic, and other challenges.
“What we want to do is partner with them and say, ‘Ok, you’ve done so much hard work. Could we come along side you to identify readers, record what has been translated so all of your people can have access to God’s Word?’” JP says.

The local church in India has committed to raising a third of the budget. The rest is up for grabs. 15 thousand dollars will round out the funds needed to provide a language group with 1000 devices. Would you, your church, or a group of friends consider taking on one of the languages?
“I have seen with my own eyes what five loaves and two fish can do to multitudes in India. 1000 audio Bibles to some of these unreached people groups could be transformative in many ways,” JP says.
For the giver, it’s more than a front row seat to Bible Translation history in the making.
“We get to be part of something historic, but then how wonderful that the history we’re helping create involves God’s Word in somebody’s heart language.”
