The miracle of gospel on the US-Mexico border

Mexico (MNN) — Many migrants trying to cross the border to the US illegally are searching for a better life. Yet, some find the ultimate source of life.

The past few months have shown a sharp decline in migrant encounters at the US-Mexico border. Yet thousands of people still desire a better future in the US and attempt to enter the country illegally. What they don’t expect during their dangerous travels is to meet passionate believers who want to share the gospel with them.

Mission Cry sends repurposed Christian books and Bibles to local partners around the world. One of their partners seeks to reach migrants at the US-Mexico border, with one missionary even riding on top of trains to meet them! They get to know them and share the good news of Jesus Christ.

Rev. Jason Woolford with Mission Cry explains: “Should they choose to go home or come across the border, at least [our partners are] ministering the gospel, giving them the good, full gospel news of Jesus Christ.”

The gospel of Christ is a vital source of hope for people escaping gangs or seeking a better economic life. Even for those running from their responsibilities, Christ’s truth serves as a catalyst for their hearts’ transformation. The stories continue to pile up as brilliant testimonies.

“There was a young man coming from Honduras,” recalls Woolford, “going to cross the border, and our [partners were] able to minister the gospel, lead him to the Lord Jesus Christ, and remind him that he had a place in his country to go back and fight for the women and the children, to be a godly man.” As a result, the man returned home and became an evangelist!

Another testimony is of a young Venezuelan man who left his wife and children to pursue a better future for himself. “Our [partners were] able to minister to him and remind him that his first responsibility was to God, and the second to his wife and his children.” This man also chose to return.

One challenge local Christians encounter in this outreach is the lack of biblical knowledge among some migrants.

“It’s about a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. What better way to give them that than for them to understand and know who their Father, who the Son, and who the Holy Spirit is — the Triune God — than by reading His Word that doesn’t return void?” One of the goals of these missions is to ignite a passion for the Word in the people they meet. Mission Cry books and Bibles are part of that goal.

“As we’ve distributed tens of thousands of copies and continue to do so, lives are being changed. Generations are being changed! We’re making better fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, women, and children because of giving them the word of God,” Woolford says.
