International (MNN) — A worker with Operation Mobilization in an undisclosed location is using technology to share Christ, and it's being well received.
According to OM, one team leader has started texting the Word of God to many friends and colleagues. He began by sending daily encouragement to 40 people, but now he's reaching 70 people every day. Three other fellow workers have also started to text, too, as they saw how people appreciated the messages.
OM reports that one person complained when they failed to receive the encouraging text message one day. "Why did you never send the text today?" he wrote. "I was waiting for the whole day, and now I need to phone you, because I wasn't able to enjoy my day without the verses you send me daily. Please, don't fail to send me the verses every day. They are so helpful to me in living my life well."
Another person phoned and said, "It seems that God spoke to me by these verses. Please carry on this work as now I read the Word of God daily, due to your motivation by text."
Missionary leaders may want to begin thinking about this type of outreach. According to a new market study from Portio Research, 50-percent of the world's population will be using a cell phone by the end of 2009. Africa now boasts the fastest growth rate in the world, forecast to add 265 million new mobile subscribers over the next 6 years.
Pray that God will give wisdom to those who are using new technology to share Christ.
