Team to give backpacks and hope in Guatemala

By November 8, 2007

Guatemala (MNN) — UNICEF
estimates that are over 370,000 orphans in Guatemala. Many of these children
come from families facing extreme poverty; estimates are over 70 percent of
Guatemala live below the poverty level. In addition, the HIV/AIDS epidemic
appears to be growing rapidly.

Education is something every child needs for a
bright future. But for an orphan child, it is their only hope to escape a grim
future.

Orphan Outreach is
developing a strategic plan for Guatemala which will include a Christian
school for orphans in extreme poverty situations and support of  HIV/AIDS
orphans.

They are not only
assembling a team (December 28, 2007 – January 4, 2008),
but they are also collecting backpacks, school
supplies and toiletries for distribution in partner schools and orphanages. The team needs pens,
pencils, crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks, pencil keepers, colored
pencils, pencil sharpeners, toothbrushes/toothpaste, pain relief medicine,  (infant, children, and adult), vitamins, ziplock bags for transporting humanitarian aid, rolling duffle bags and first aid kits.

The mission of Orphan Outreach is to glorify Christ
by ministering to orphans around the world by meeting spiritual, physical,
emotional and educational needs. Their program focuses on providing early
intervention, education, spiritual development and improve the lives of those
children living in substandard situations.

Pray that God will call His team together for their
December Mission Backpack trip to Guatemala. Click here if you're interested in signing up.
