Pentecostal and evangelical leaders are meeting all this week in Ecuador to discuss how to reach Latin America for Christ. Latin America Mission’s Ken MacHarg has been following the story and files this report. “Delegates to the 4th Latin American Congress on Evangelism heard a strong call to put aside their differences and unite in their effort to reach the continent. Seminary professor David Ramirez challenged the 1,300 delegates to become a micro-model of community drawing both on the word and the spirit to function according to the principles of the kingdom of God. Representatives of most protestant churches throughout the Americans are exploring how to reach children, students indigenous groups and others. Meanwhile, missionaries, and other people raising support, now have additional resources to help them in their efforts to go to the mission field. Inner City Impact’s Bill Dillon has written “People Raising: A Practical Guide To Raising Support.” The resource material consists of workbooks, videos and study guides to help new or veteran missionaries, short term and summer missionaries, missions personnel directors and others in raising support more effectively.

Plans are underway to launch a new mission into Nagaland. Doctor L. Tsanso of Gospel Revival Ministries just completed an evangelistic tour to the Nagaland region, which includes Nepal, Bhutan and surrounding areas. GRM is hoping to set up a mission to launch mission work into the region, which would cover those areas and parts of Tibet. The Nagas were headhunters as recently as 40-years ago. Nagaland is a restricted area, surrounded by Indian troops. Tsanso says it’s nearly impossible for outsiders to reach this area.

Elsewhere, New Focus National has presented the country with an evangelistic approach to a type of crisis management. Betsy Dekker explains the function of New Focus programs in the church. “The church wants to do more than just meet their immediate need. The church is caring deeply for their welfare and the church does this by holding a weekly class to help these people figure out where they are in their finances and relationships…and the church offers friendship accountability.” We contacted Olivet Baptist Church in Oklahoma City for the practical application of the program. Heart and Hand Ministry’s Sterling Artnzen. “We have people that are in crisis today, realizing they’re in a crisis, admitting what they’ve done wrong, believing that God can change their situation, and understand that change is going to be difficult. Then they have to understand that they have to discipline themselves in a different manner, and as an end result, freedom will come to them.”
