Ministry Festival celebrating Jamaica’s Golden Anniversary

By July 13, 2012

Jamaica (MNN) — Jamaica is celebrating their Golden Anniversary of 50 years since they declared independence from England.

Andrew Palau with the Luis Palau Association is in Jamaica this weekend to celebrate with a Festival week themed around freedom, specifically the freedom we have in Christ that “surpasses all other freedoms.”

The week will culminate in a large Festival event this Saturday, July 14. Up to 80,000 Jamaicans are expected to attend the Festival.

Andrew Palau, his family, and the Palau team have already been there for the past few days ministering to various areas of Kingston along the southeastern coast of Jamaica.

Mission teams from Portland, Omaha, and Florida have also traveled with the Luis Palau Association for the ministry project. They’ve been working with local schools, children’s homes, orphanages, and community centers leading worship and sharing the Gospel message.

On Tuesday of this week, Andrew and the mission teams along with Action Sports performers did an outreach in Trench Town, one of the neediest areas in Kingston. As a team, they prayed over the town for the impact of the Holy Spirit.

Another component of the Festival week includes Andrew visiting inmates to share the Good News of salvation in Jamaican prisons.

The Palau team reports that the weather in Jamaica has been hot and humid with threats of rain since they’ve been there.

Please pray for favorable weather for the festival on Saturday. Pray also for team members and for Andrew as they minister, that many in Jamaica might come to know Christ as their Savior.
