Middle East (MNN) — Damage costs from the February 6 earthquakes in Türkiye will now exceed $100 billion. Previous World Bank estimates placed damages at around $34.2 billion.

“This destruction is a physical picture of the scale of spiritual need in many [Middle East] countries. Many people are cut off from the Gospel,” Rob Myers of DOOR International says.
Less than two percent of Deaf people in the Middle East know Jesus. “Even if there are churches, even if there are printed Bibles, Deaf people [often] are cut off from access to those,” Myers explains.
“They need Scripture in sign language [and] Deaf leaders trained and empowered to bring the Gospel into their communities.”
Plus, “Deaf people face this stigma that a child is born deaf because parents sinned, or somehow this is a punishment from God on the parents,” Myers says.
“That shame follows those Deaf people into their access to school, language, and how [they] interact.”
