Local churches press on despite danger in Ukraine

Ukraine (MNN) — Ukraine’s drone attacks intensify in Russia, damaging at least one major oil refinery.

The latest assault comes a day after a new round of Patriot missile systems arrived, courtesy of Western allies. Meanwhile, Russian bombings killed two Ukrainians on Monday and injured 16.

“The eastern part of Ukraine has been under a constant barrage of missile, rocket, and drone assaults. People have had to deal with the tragedy of loss, the fear of impending loss, and the difficulties every night as they face the reality of a constant war,” Slavic Gospel Association’s Eric Mock says.

“But, at the same time, people are rising in ways that are almost beyond comprehension.”

As brave believers share the hope of Christ, people are coming to the Lord. “Churches that may have only been 20 percent full are [now] 150 percent full,” Mock says.

“The Gospel’s going out beyond any strategic development as God opens doors.”

SGA partners with Ukrainian churches in three strategic ways: training and equipping church leaders, helping to build churches, and supporting outreach. More about that here.

“The goal is [to have] 1,000 more national missionaries by 2035,” Mock says.

Connect with SGA here for ways to help, and continue praying for SGA church partners.

“These churches are holding summer camps; even with air raid sirens going off, the kids are continuing to hear God’s Word taught to them and continuing to see God’s love through the people caring for them,” Mock says.

“We encourage you to get involved in our training ministry, but above all, we ask for your prayers. Pray for the faithful believers who have chosen to stand in the middle of this storm; they are standing there, not fleeing,” he continues.

“Pray for those brave, faithful churches, and pray for the pastors and the wives of the pastors who are ministering to the needs while being frightened themselves. Pray for an end to this conflict.”

In a time of great uncertainty, God is bringing help, healing, and hope to the people of Ukraine through SGA-supported pastors, churches, a seminary, and an SGA-supported Compassion Ministry. (Header photo, caption courtesy of Slavic Gospel Association)
