Expansion is a necessity for the Sydney family.
India (MNN) — Home expansion might top the New Year’s Resolution list for some. But for the India Field Director of Far Corners Missions, it’s more than a desire — expansion is a necessity.
“They now have 39 children, besides their own children, living in their home. They’re obviously bursting out at the seams,” explains Far Corners’ President and CEO, Gary Bishop.
It all started a few years ago when some abandoned children were brought to the home of Far Corners’ India Field Director, Aseesh Sydney. Those children are still at the Sydney home today, along with Aseesh and his wife’s three children, and dozens of other “drop-offs.”
Though crowded, the Sydney home is a safe haven, where all of the children learn about God’s love for them and are guarded from the dangers of street life. Kids left to fend for themselves-without the protection of parents or guardians–quickly become easy prey for traffickers.
According to the Global Slavery Index, India holds nearly half of the world’s modern-day slaves. The thriving black markets of child sex tourism and organ transplants make vulnerable children a prize commodity.

“So many of these children [at the Sydney home] would be victims of that, were they not protected and taken care of,” notes Bishop.
Far Corners is building an orphanage near the director’s home. When finished, it will house up to 250 orphans.
“We hope many people will see this as a great opportunity to care for precious children,” says Bishop. “For $25, [listeners] can buy a door…. For $1,000, they can build an entire room.”

“Right after the first of the year, the orphanage will come up on our Web site on the ‘Giving’ page,” Bishop explains.

“Most of these children come out of Hindu families, and it’s our chance to be a witness to the people of the villages where they come from that the love of Jesus comes through Far Corners Missions,” says Bishop.
Pray also for Aseesh Sydney and his wife. They will be taking over as Resident Directors of the orphanage when it’s completed. “God’s been preparing them for a long time to take on this specific task,” Bishop notes.
