Middle East/North Africa (MNN) — A year’s final days are often a time of deep contemplation.
As unfoldingWord President/CEO David Reeves reflects on what the Lord did over the past 12 months, he says 2023 was “a fruitful but also difficult year. The stunning thing is, despite all the craziness, the Lord continues to move forward His Kingdom.”
For example, “despite a war in Sudan, they continue to press ahead doing Bible translation,” Reeves says.
“We hear about people groups in Sudan being systematically hunted down. Yet the Gospel is being proclaimed, people are coming to Christ, and the Church is growing. Same thing in Iran, and we’ve got a guy doing Bible translation in a bunker in Ukraine.”
Reeves says in every location, “They have a deep sense of ownership because they did the work themselves, despite what seemed like insurmountable obstacles going on around them.”

“In the early church context, persecution was rampant. Despite that, the Church rapidly grew and expanded. That’s the kind of thing we’re seeing in these situations,” Reeves says.

“The first thing that we need from your listeners [and readers] is prayer – a hedge of protection around not only us but the brothers and sisters we work with,” Reeves says.
“We are in spiritual warfare constantly. Satan will [stop at nothing] to create confusion, disruptions, interventions, and get people killed.”
