A Christian agency takes a different response to Katrina.

By September 6, 2005

USA (MNN)–Mission Aviation Fellowship has established an emergency, wireless internet communication center in Auburn, Alabama.

This effort mirrors the communications support provided by Mission Aviation Fellowship in Sumatra following the tsunami disaster in December 2004.

The center has been assisting families and emergency personnel with not only communications, but also relief supplies.

Using VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) technology, MAF plans to establish a solar-powered communications grid for both high speed internet and VOIP (voice over internet protocol) in the affected areas.

The critically-needed communication networks they provide will assist agencies coordinating relief in the disaster zone.

As team members reach out, they are demonstrating the compassion of Christ. MAF is trying to raise $500,000 to support the equipment deployment.
