USA (MNN) — It’s a ministry that started almost 60 years ago when someone couldn’t bear seeing an old Bible thrown away. He decided to collect old Bibles and send them overseas. That was the beginning of Christian Resources International, based in Fowlerville, Michigan.

CRI executive director Jason Woolford says, “After almost 60 years and a few executive directors later, we now by God’s grace have sent $266 million in free Bibles and Christian books to over 169 nations around the world.”

While most of these books are in English, Woolford says these re-purposed resources are effective. “English is the financial language of the world. When you look at places like Africa, India, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and other places that we send to, a majority of the people will speak their native language and usually two additional languages. Reading in English, in most cases, isn’t a problem.”

CRI is dependent upon people like you to donate used Bibles and Christian books. Woolford says the average home in North America has about nine unused Bibles in their homes. “We ask people to share those books. Send them in to us. Help us financially to get those books over to those who desire them around the world.”

What kinds of books are most requested? “Bibles, commentaries, New and Old Testament surveys, and other Christian books,” says Woolford. “With those things, we set up lending libraries, Bible colleges, and send God’s Word into prisons in those areas. So it’s having a huge impact.”

While the donated books are important, so is the funding to deliver them. Woolford says becoming a book missionary is a $27-a-month commitment.  “For every $27 that’s donated, that puts over $300 worth of free Bibles and Christian books into the hands of those who are pastors, missionaries, evangelists, orphans, and those serving in prison.”

CRI has some major projects for the upcoming year that need your support. They’re continuing to support their new Nigerian distribution center. This is in an area where the Boko Haram continues attacking Christians. CRI also has a major project scheduled for the fall: to send more than $3 million worth of resources to the Philippines.

You can support CRI’s work through Bible and book donations and financial support. To get additional information on both, go to http://www.MyCRImission.com.
