USA (MNN) — Europe has been swamped by the amount of Syrian refugees rushing in. New York Times reports nearly 93,000 refugees have been admitted into Germany in the same 4-year time frame that the U.S. admitted 1,854 refugees.
Yet, with the increasing numbers crossing the European border every day, the U.S. has committed this year to accept four times the amount of refugees that have been admitted since the beginning of the conflict. SAT-7, a Christian satellite television ministry to the Middle East and North Africa, will be standing beside them with words of encouragement and the love of Christ.
As refugees resettle in a new country, they feel small and vulnerable. “It’s like taking someone from a very small, dark room to a very, very big world,” Hussam Al Roustom, a refugee who arrived in June, told the New York Times.
Nine voluntary agencies are working to help refugees immigrate and resettle in the U.S. If Syrian refugees were to have family in the country, they would be assigned nearby. If not, they would be appointed to a medium-sized city in the same vicinity as other Syrian refugees. It is a helpful way to deal with what they’ve been through, what they’re going through, and what they hope will happen. Refugees are placed in areas with a good economy, affordable homes, and plenty of jobs. After a year of assistance, they are expected to be self-dependent.
They will not be not alone, however. SAT-7 has online programs that can be streamed anywhere in the world. And, because SAT-7 hosts speak the refugees’ heart languages, it’s like a touch of home.
There are shows for kids and adults covering news, sports, and education. Each one gives encouragement, speaking about the love of God and how to act in a Christian manner.
