Honduras (MNN) — Hospitals in Honduras are struggling each day to take in all the new cases of the H1N1 virus, otherwise known as the swine flu.
At least 30 new patients are coming in each day. Compassion International has child centers in Honduras and has organized a contingency group that will monitor the situation. Earlier this year, Compassion temporarily closed 34 of its child development centers as a preventative measure, but they have since reopened.
There are 200 confirmed H1N1 cases, with 1,000 suspected cases and six deaths. Most cases in Honduras are children between the ages of 5 and 15 years. Compassion will contact sponsors if their child is affected by the virus.
Almost 30 children from HO-353 were treated for flu symptoms and more than half have been sent back to the center while the remaining children are recovering at home.
Health authorities have been handing out masks in the capital city of Tegucigalpa. They have also been conducting home inspections.

cease spreading.
