Syria (MNN/ODM) — Advances by Syrian government troops are sending a fresh exodus of refugees into Lebanon. The Associated Press reports that over the weekend, some 10,000 Syrians fled into the Lebanese border town of Arsal.

Lebanon already houses approximately 1.4 million Syrian refugees, or one-fifth of their total population. Fellow Syrian neighbors Jordan and Turkey house around 550,000 and 600,000 Syrian refugees, respectively.
For nearly three years we have heard about the horrific situation in Syria. From Christian neighborhoods in Damascus being overtaken by rebel forces to the ruthless use of chemical warfare, at least 100,000 people have died and millions more have fled to neighboring countries.
With no end to the civil war in sight and neighboring countries stretched to their limit, Open Doors USA is issuing a global petition. They’re hoping 500,000 signatures will prod the UN to safeguard all Syrians, including vulnerable Christian communities.
Open Doors says Christians are choosing to stay in Syria, despite the danger that they face on a daily basis. The group is helping over 8,000 families survive each month in Syria. Through training and prayer, these believers are standing strong.
