Honduras (MNN) — According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Honduras has world’s highest murder rate.
Officials there estimate that the drug trade is responsible for roughly 20 murders every day — a doubling in only five years. Honduras is believed to be a crucial stop on the route cocaine traffickers take from South America into Mexico and the United States.
Poverty also plays a large role in the violence as does lawlessness, which increased dramatically following a 2009 coup d’état.
Still, the evangelical movement in this country has been growing since 1960. Recent research shows that the evangelical population has grown to be approximately 1.7 million.
Christian Aid Mission, your link to indigenous missions, supports local believers who work to evangelize to isolated villages and provides Bible training to missionaries and church leaders. A Christian Aid Mission-assisted indigenous ministry there, the Prince of Peace Mission, has planted 35 churches in rural areas.
Church congregations are growing under their leadership. Pray for these dedicated missionaries. Resources for discipleship are scarce. The team is hoping to raise enough for at least 400 Bibles ($8 each) and hundreds of evangelistic tracts ($50 per 100 tracts), as they continue to evangelize remote villages.
