Challenge for Change helps MNN celebrate 20 years

By June 23, 2011

USA (MNN) — Mission Network News started its ministry in 1991. It was an idea of some broadcasters, a media company, and Christian relief organization. What's missing in Christian radio? At that time it was a radio broadcast that focused on missions: not just one organization, but all evangelical mission organizations.

So in July 1991, Mission Network News started on the air on more than 200 radio stations. Since then, MNN has expanded to more than 1,000 radio outlets and is now providing news on the Web in both English and Spanish. More than three million people hear or read MNN each day.

As MNN celebrates its 20th year of ministry, the ministry is issuing a Challenge to change the world. MNN is launching and sponsoring Challenge for Change, a month-long initiative to get people out in the world and do something for God.

"As people begin planning their vacations and activities, Challenge for Change is a call to action to include sharing their faith as part of those plans," says Greg Yoder, Executive Director.

MNN is partnering with radio affiliates in the month of July 2011 to focus attention on local and international mission agencies and service opportunities. "We have found that many people are interested in missions, but they either don't have the information needed to motivate them to get involved, or the information they do have is overwhelming and they feel as if their efforts won't have a significant impact," continues Yoder. "Challenge for Change is about demystifying mission work and showing thousands of people the power of one — the One Christ alone."

As part of their efforts to galvanize a large number of people, MNN will debut Challenge for Change to an anticipated crowd of 30,000 at Big Ticket Festival, a three-day Christian music festival being held at the Ionia County Fairgrounds (June 23-25 in Ionia, MI).

Challenge for Change continues through July featuring radio broadcast interviews with mission agencies, daily mission challenges, and the chance for participants to share photos and videos of their summer service activities on MNN's Web site. Challenge for Change culminates with an international mission trip giveaway, the opportunity to travel to Guatemala with MNN mission partner Orphan Outreach.

"We're gratified by the enthusiastic support we've received from many of our global mission partners, and we are confident that Challenge for Change will indeed result in widespread positive change," says Yoder. "I can't think of a better way to celebrate our anniversary than to focus on helping others, and more importantly, telling them how they can have life everlasting in Jesus."
