USA (MNN) – Even though money is
coming, it may take Hurricane Ike survivors months to recover from the
damages.
More than a half billion dollars
has been pledged in state and federal assistance to help Texans in 34 counties
recover from the storm's damages.
Two months after Ike took oil and
gas production offline in the Gulf of Mexico, nearly a quarter of the
production remains offline.
The federal government's slow
pace of moving families displaced by Hurricane Ike into a long-term housing
program is frustrating to all parties involved.
That's why World Hope
International continues to help Texas with the recovery process. The ministry
partnered with other relief groups such as the United Way, Catholic Charities USA,
and The Salvation Army, as well as the Federal Emergency Management Agency to
provide a local forum for disaster-related communications and resource
distribution.
WHI's job is to provide volunteer
labor and construction management to rebuild homes on an ongoing basis. Current
estimates indicate that as many as 2,000 Orange County, Texas, residents may
need this rebuilding assistance after the organization begins operating later
this month.
