Kenya (MNN) — More deadly ethnic fighting flared Sunday
over Kenya's disputed election. Police finally
put an end to more than two days of fighting that killed 22 people and left 200
homes burned in the Rift Valley region.
More than 600 people have been killed in violence that
erupted after the Dec. 27 election, which opposition leader Raila Odinga
accused incumbent Mwai Kibaki of stealing. The unrest also displaced over 250,000 who
have been finding refuge at police stations, church courtyards, city stadiums,
schools, and show grounds.
Meanwhile, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni headed to Kenya
Tuesday to help jumpstart talks between Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and
opposition leader Raila Odinga.
However, security is still unsure, especially with the
latest flares over the weekend. Baptist
Global Response, along with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board,
remains in place responding to the critical hunger needs of the thousands
who've fled the fighting. Forty percent
of the displaced are estimated to be young children.
