USA (MNN) — While the National Day of Prayer in the United States is seven months away, organizers of the prayer effort are already planning for the 2008 gathering. Over the weekend, people from many Christian organizations gathered in Colorado Springs, Colorado for the National Day of Prayer Task Force meeting.
Ken Sharp of Bible Pathway Ministries was invited to conduct workshops "to help them to see the importance of joining together with prayer and the Word of God across our great nation, and to promote the Word of God so that we can better pray in accordance with God's Word."
According to Sharp, prayer coupled with the failure to read Scripture will be catastrophic. "God warned us that we are destroyed by lack of knowledge and not reading the Word of God. We need to understand that prayer without the Word is weak, but the Word without prayer is legalism."
Sharp says it appears the Bible Reading Marathons will be encouraged as part of National Day of Prayer initiatives. "They have seen over the years, more and more, people that have had Bible Reading Marathons. They're seeing how much more powerful the prayer time is because people are not just praying the words of man."
As Christians pray more and read God's Word more, it can't help but make a difference evangelistically. "We'll become better church members. We'll become better Sunday school teachers, better pastors, better husbands and wives and of course when we are empowered with God's Word, God is going to empower us much more with His Holy Spirit. That will allow us to lead more people to Christ."
Pray for the National Day of Prayer Task Force that the plans they make for May 2008 will not just be a program but a strategy to encourage Christians to draw closer to Christ.
