(MNN) — Ghana has launched a currency
redenomination effort in a bid to fight hyper-inflation. The
country has seen falling inflation and steady growth in recent years. Economic
growth of about 6 percent is forecast for 2007, though hopes of bringing
inflation under 10 percent have been eroded by chronic power shortages.
However, growing economic freedom means workers must be
skilled, but training can be hard to come by. Enter: The Oasis International
Training Center
in Prampram.
OITC's Ambrose Brennan shares the example of how one
student, from a salt-mining village went home following his training.
"Someone came up to him and asked, 'Could you help us with this? We
want to start exporting salt to other West African countries.' So he was expressing how the class had really
taught him the importance of responsibility and leadership both in the church
and in the community."
Stories like this one underscore the reason the Oasis
Institute exists. The Training Center offers classes in Leadership, Financial
Management, Understanding God Bible Class, Old Testament Tabernacle, Basic
Computer Applications, English, and Study of the Human Body.
Brennan says, "Our motto here is 'Living to train and
training to live,' and we're really teaching people from a biblical aspect, how
to live their lives in a manner which would be more pleasing to God and which
would be more beneficial to themselves."
