Greece (MNN)–Authorities call Friday’s rocket attack on the US Embassy in Athens an ‘act of terrorism’. No one was injured, although the blast rattled nerves as much as it did the building.
The missile damaged the ambassador’s office, and pierced the building above the front entrance early Friday. It also damaged a bathroom and shattered windows in nearby buildings.
It was the first major attack against a U.S. target in Greece in more than a decade. AMG International has the CosmoVision Center in Athens, and has long-standing work in the region. When asked if the connection with the U-S was putting their teams in danger, AMG’s Tasos Ioannidis said, “We are monitoring the situation very carefully. Right now, we don’t have a lot of concern. The group that is responsible for the bombing, a group named ‘Revolutionary Struggle’ is fairly new. This is the second serious attack, and the first against American interests. We are monitoring it carefully, but we are not very concerned yet.”
Ioannidis urges prayer on behalf of their staff. “We see this as an opportunity to make the Gospel known and we want to reassure people that it is safe to go there and until we have a clearer idea, we’ll keep an eye out.”
The Cosmovision Center houses a Christian school. Its aim is to meet the growing educational needs of the children of missionaries and foreign personnel in Eastern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
In another part of the facility, the Center also serves as an international educational center for individuals, Christian universities and seminaries focusing on New Testament studies.
It also houses a sports facility to promote the use of sports both for physical and spiritual transformation. Pray for the safety of the workers operating this ministry center. Pray that their testimoney would continue to stand strong in this region.
