Leadership change in Bhutan sparks hope for ministry.

Bhutan (MNN)–Bhutan’s king unexpectedly stepped down earlier this month, sparking hope that freedom of religion will finally come.

Gospel For Asia’s President KP Yohannan says Bhutan is a closed country, but hopes the crown prince will hold a different view on Christians.

Right now, it’s illegal for a Buddhist to become a Christian and church buildings are forbidden. According to GFA, Christians in Bhutan are only allowed to practice their faith at home. Those who openly choose to follow Christ can be expelled from Bhutan and stripped of their citizenship.

In spite of the oppression, GFA missionaries are at work. The people are receptive to the Gospel and many have become believers.

Gospel for Asia has a Bible college training additional native missionaries to work in the hostile spiritual climate of Bhutan. GFA Radio also broadcasts programs in five languages that reach Bhutan. Please pray for all Christians in Bhutan.
