Dominican Republic (MNN)–Worldwide Christian Schools says their partner in the Dominican Republic, Bermejo (ber-MAY-ho) Christian School just graduated 16 students from 8th grade.
These 8th graders are the first to graduate from any batey, or Haitian migrant school (whose student body has parents who make a living cutting sugarcane). All of them are now enrolled in the local high school. Each student was given the gift of a personalized Bible with a handwritten note from their principal.
In addition to the graduation, Bermejo Christian School is also unique in its relationship to the local public school. Four part-time teachers and the school supervisor are funded by the Dominican government.
They are Christians who are strongly dedicated to the school and to COCREF, the Christian association of schools Bermejo belongs to in the Dominican Republic.
It’s a rewarding fruition to years of partnership that began when WCS sent a HANDS work team to help with the construction of Bermejo’s school buildings. WCS is looking for more HANDS teams to travel there this upcoming year to finish a much-needed building on campus.
