Guatemala (MNN)–Guatemala is a country where 75-percent of the population lives beneath the poverty line.
Food for the Poor just got a food grant that will help make a difference for some quarter of a million children. The United States Department of Agriculture, Foreign Agriculture Service is partnering with the ministry to get desperately needed food and milk into the country.
With it, they’ll feed 100,000 children in daycare centers, preschools and clinics. The grant will also provide take-home rations for another 160,000 children, family members, teachers and caregivers.
On top of food, FFP will see to it that the children get regularly scheduled health exams, and mothers will be educated in nutrition, health, HIV/AIDS, aquaculture, gardening and the importance of education for children.
Food For The Poor is partnering with Caritas and the Order of Malta, who have established service and distribution networks in Guatemala.
In so doing, the staff will be tackling spiritual hunger as well with the hope of the Gospel as they act as the hands and feet of Christ.
