USA (MNN)–Trans World Radio’s Jim Munger says they are moving on their desire is to reach Spanish-speaking people.
TWR just bought airtime on KCKN, a 50-thousand watt AM station in Roswell, New Mexico. The station reaches into both Mexico and a large area in the western United States.
It’s a strategic placement for new growth, because Spanish is the world’s third most spoken language, after Mandarin Chinese and English. It also ranks second in terms of native speakers.
“We’ve begun to broadcast every night, into Mexico, with Gospel programming,” Munger says. It’s too early to measure the impact on the listening community in the region, he explains, adding, “We’ve just begun broadcasting, and most of the programming, until now, on the station, has been English, so we’re establishing a new audience.”
They’re hoping to increase the hours on the station in New Mexico. Munger goes on to say that there’s a possibility of getting on new stations along the Mexican border.
A new program launch, and new plans for more, already. The urgency? “There’s a window of time while they’re a little bit disoriented and looking for where they’re going to be, and what they’re going to do. We have a window of perhaps ten years where we can reach them with the Gospel, because their foundations are shaky.”
