USA (MNN)–InterVarsity Christian Fellowship has just formed a Gulf Coast fund to support their work in Louisiana and Mississippi.
On September 7th, InterVarsity held their Annual Day of Prayer for the staff of InterVarsity’s National Service Center in Madison. In addition, the team prayed for the challenges faced by staff in the Gulf Coast region.
InterVarsity is involved in ministry on the campuses of the University of New Orleans, and Tulane University.
The staff in New Orleans and in the Deep South had to be evacuated. Contact with students and faculty from the impacted universities has been sporadic.
However, the New Orleans staff made sure that, after people had shelter, they could reconnect with relatives via online forums and blog sites.
Meanwhile, getting the ministry back into gear has proven somewhat difficult. Some staffers and students are engaged in relief efforts, while others got emergency transfers to other schools. Pray for those involved in ministry in the region, that they will be able to rebuild.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Tulane, Loyola and the University of New Orleans hope cleanup has come far enough to reopen for spring term.
