Muslim-dominated Niger set to get Christian radio.

Niger (MNN) — The country of Niger is 90-percent Muslim. That fact alone makes Christian radio a challenge in that African nation. But, that exactly what’s being planned.

Words of Hope is planning to help establish Christian broadcasting in the region. Word of Hope’s Lee DeYoung. “Even though it’s over 90-percent Islamic, there are opportunities to use local radio stations, including over 70 community stations for broadcasting Gospel programs. (We pray) hopefully the realization of the dream of having daily broadcasts which could be heard throughout that West African nation.”

DeYoung says there are needs for prayer. “(Pray) for the construction of facilities as well as the training of personnel. A number of challenges need to be faced and met, but so far we’re encouraged by the partnership that seems to be emerging.”

It’s unclear when the broadcasts will be on the air, but the plan is to broadcast programs in Hausa and French. Pray that many will come to Christ as a result. Funding is needed to help with start-up costs.
