International (MNN)–Over 6,000 languages are currently spoken in the world today. Of that number, only about half have any portion of Scripture available in any accessible form.
The remaining 3,000 languages represent an estimated 250 million people. More than just numbers, these are individual people without access to the life-giving, life-changing hope and power of God’s Word.
The Seed Company works to change that. Four of their translation teams are nearing the end of a project in a country that remains nameless for security reasons.
They’re hoping 2005 sees the completion of New Testament translations in Dakon, Dricho, Savias and Yokoi. More than one and a half million people speak these languages.
Local churches in these language areas pay the salaries of the translators, but they’re looking for help to meet the 24 month deadline.
$500 a month means teams can buy computer equipment, pay assistants, and take care of linguistic training and consultation.
