Help is available for Zambia orphans

Zambia (MNN)–The United States government will be providing $350 million that will go to assist Zambia.

US Ambassador Martin Brennan said the money would be used to help Zambia fight HIV/AIDS, improve small and medium scale entrepreneurs, expand education, health and improve good governance.

One group already in Zambia is Teen Missions International. Director Robert Bland says they are focusing on the millions of orphans that are left behind after their parents have died of AIDS.

They are trying to help with their medical and physical needs and providing some medicine. They have sent seeds over and are teaching them how to grow their own food and harvest it. Most are not able to go to school so teams of women are going over to sew the required uniforms and are helping to pay their school fees. The group also has a chance to run camps for the kids and in turn share the Gospel.

In the past, the camps have been well attended as the children are first fed. Portable “Rescue Unit Buldings” are built and brought into the areas where team members develop relationships with the children and help disciple children that may have made a decision for Christ. Many of the camps draw the children’s interest because soccer matches are organized.

Teen Missions International uses many volunteers for the short term projects such as sewing groups, building food storage units, dorms for school children and Rescue Units. Teens are also needed to help staff the camps.
