(Democratic Republic of Congo)–Meanwhile, the cost is being tallied on the damage that the eruption had on work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. CB International’s Bruce Paden describes the destruction the lava caused in Goma. “Where our church was located everything was totally destroyed, except for one area where we had a girls school. There are still about five or six classrooms that are still left and that’s virtually all that’s left. They estimate the loss somewhere close to two million dollars.” Paden says while the damage was great, it didn’t damage the church. “The church was totally destroyed, but there were close to 300 people that were meeting outdoors that were from that congregation. So, that was encouraging. Even if the church building was destroyed the real church wasn’t destroyed, the people were still there.” Funding is needed to help rebuild the facility so the work can continue.
