Story number 1 for 1 Nov 2000

We begin today’s newscast in the Democratic Republic of Congo where rebels have chosen a new leader. The previous rebel leader came under fierce criticism from colleagues in recent months for splits and defections in the party. Grace Ministries International’s Sam Vinton explains what this could mean. “The most significant thing about the new rebel leader-he said that, ‘we have not won the people to our cause.’ If they really are going to go out of their way to try and win the population to their side, one thing they’ll have to do is quit persecuting the population.” Vinton says their work has been disrupted by rebel fighting-he’s asking that people pray for protection of their work in the area. “It would also mean that the evangelists and pastors who travel from village to village, or go out to conferences would be able to do that with possibilities of less harassment. So, keep praying, especially those of us in the United States, to ask the Lord to give us a burden for those people.”
