We begin today’s newscast in Nigeria, which has recently gotten tagged as being the most corrupt country in the world. That, as the result of a recent survey by a Berlin-based group, on top of recently enacted Sharia law, comes as bad news for the country’s struggling Christian president, Olusegun Obasanjo. Voice of the Martyrs’ Todd Nettleton analyzed the situation this way: “I think it means there’s obviously a lot of challenges for the president right now-trying to literally change a culture of corruption there. The bribes and the corruption is such a part of life and such a part of everyday existence, that literally, he almost has to rebuild the culture from the ground up.” As far as whether tensions and dishonesty will close the door on evangelism, Nettleton disagreed. He said: “…this is a man who has publicly expressed his faith in Christ, he has asked for prayer, and I think we need to support him with our prayers. There are short-term opportunities. There is the opportunity to travel there, to help and work with the church there.”
