The civil war in northern Uganda has caused more than 200,000 people to flee their homes to escape the violence. Many are in makeshift refugee camps established by the Ugandan government. Church officials say the lack of response to this tragedy means the area has received little assistance. However, the Southern Baptist International Mission Board reports that they recently sent 13 tons of corn meal and beans to six different locations. As displaced believers helped with the distribution of food, they told of God’s love and many came to Christ.
