International (MNN) — Ramadan, a month of prayer and fasting for Muslims, begins the last day of February and lasts through March. By refusing to eat or drink from sunrise to sunset, devout Muslims seek spiritual purity and revelation during this time.
As a Christian, would you devote the season of Ramadan to prayer and fasting of a different variety? Please join Christians around the globe who are petitioning the Lord on behalf of Muslims, praying that even as Muslims seek Allah, they will find Jesus.
Don’t know where to start? We’ve got you covered.
30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World is a movement to help Christians around the globe lovingly lift up Muslim people during Ramadan. Now in its 32nd year, the effort has its roots in the Middle East, where Christians involved in ministry to Muslims saw a need for greater intercession on behalf of the lost. Each year, they publish a prayer guide for use during Ramadan. You can order a free printed copy here, or purchase PDF and children’s versions here.
John Pudaite with Bibles for the World says his ministry is this year’s publisher and distributor of the prayer guide.
“We’re just really blessed and honored to be able to steward such a wonderful publication and to be a part of mobilizing prayer, not only in the US but across the world,” he says.
The guide is available in more than 30 languages. Though complex barriers often inhibit ministry to Muslims, Pudaite says breakthroughs are happening as God’s people pray. He is excited that this edition of the prayer guides focuses specifically on the power of Scripture.
“And how God has used that to bring the message of his Son Jesus Christ to people behind the barriers – behind the walls and the curtains that shield these people from learning about Jesus Christ,” he says.
Each day, the prayer guide features a country, a people group, and an outreach happening to that group.
“In the process, you can really learn a lot about those people groups and how God is working and getting through to these people,” Pudaite says.
Though many Muslims are devout, others nominally subscribe to Islam simply because it has been culturally passed down to them.
“There are many coming from places like Tajikistan or small islands in the Pacific – places like that,” Pudaite says, “who are following this almost mindlessly, just by accepting it as traditional heritage.”
He calls us to remember that these image-bearers need to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.
While Muslims fast and pray, we can do the same, directing our prayers to the triune God who redeems all those who put their faith in him.
Please pray that God would bring many Muslims to a realization that Jesus is Lord:
“That even through their time of fasting and prayer, they may even see the hollowness of their religion,” Pudaite says.
Pray that we may see spiritual progress in the coming year because God’s people have come together in prayer and fasting on behalf of Muslims.
