Lebanon (MNN) — The new year rolled in with new hope for Lebanon, as the beleaguered nation filled its president and prime minister vacancies.
“The old group of people who were ruling Lebanon is now going slowly and moving aside, and we have a new rulership,” Nuna with Triumphant Mercy Lebanon says. “The people coming into position are good people [who] have no blood on their hands, no corruption.”
As a result, “The atmosphere in Lebanon has changed,” she continues.
“You can see people with restored hope. That is something we have lacked for years.”
Decades of mismanagement, a staggering refugee crisis, financial collapse in 2019, and the Beirut port blast in 2020 have left Lebanon in ruins. The number of people living below the poverty line tripled over a decade.
“But when we see people now, and we’re praying with people, you can see the light in their eyes, like Lebanon is coming to a new place. It’s such a joy to see that,” Nuna says.
Weary Gospel workers are finally seeing mindsets change. “For [a long time,] we just had no prospect of future,” Nuna says.
“We had to try to [convince] people that this is not the end. It will finish one day; you will have a future, but it was hard for them to grasp. With this change, it’s like they have this renewed hope, and we are enjoying it with them.”
Pray the positive changes in leadership will help people see Jesus as the only source of lasting hope. Partner with Triumphant Mercy here to help Syrian refugees return home, taking the Gospel with them.
“We had so many of our Syrian teachers who are working with us go; they went back to Syria just to check how the situation is. And they’re all saying that they’re going back to Syria in springtime because [right] now their homes are destroyed,” Nuna says.
“We want to help these people to go back, so we’re working with them at the community centers and trying to prepare them.”
