Vietnam (MNN) — An evangelistic outreach in Vietnam earlier this month was full of surprises.
The first surprise was that it was even allowed to happen. Vietnam is a staunchly Communist nation where Buddhism is prevalent.
“We do believe that in this case, God opened the hearts of the official to give us permission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to people,” says a man we’ll call Pastor Loc, who served as an interpreter at the crusade.
The second joyful surprise was the impact of the two nights of outreach, despite rain the second night.
“There were over 24,000 people attending the crusade, and over 2,200 people received Jesus Christ,” says Pastor Loc. “Praise the Lord for that!”
The outreach was in association with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. It was called the Franklin Graham Season of Love Festival and held in Cần Thơ, Vietnam. Pastor Loc says this was the third crusade the government has allowed them to have.

Over recent years, more than 250 churches have united to bring these events about. What’s next? Now that the December crusade is over, local believers are connecting with the new Christians for discipleship.
“We thank God for those who opened their hearts to accept Jesus Christ. Please pray for them, so that they can grow in their faith in Jesus Christ,” says Pastor Loc. “At the same time, we [would] like you to pray for us so that we can spread the good news of Jesus Christ to many people, especially in this season of Christmas. Many churches are preparing to do evangelism, in a smaller size, in many different places in Vietnam.”
