Ukraine (MNN) — Have you experienced what it’s like to be chilled to the bone? Remember that moment when warmth finally wrapped around you again?
With winter fast approaching in Ukraine, Russian forces are targeting civilian power sources. The Ukrainian power grid is heavily reliant on Soviet-era infrastructure, specifically autotransformers, and is difficult to repair when damaged.
Slavic Gospel Association’s (SGA) Eric Mock says they are ramping up their Heat and Hope program in Ukraine, just in time.
“Even as we speak, we are currently moving generators into churches,” says Mock.

“In this case, a lot of these churches will be sheltering people because we want them to at least be centers where they can go and warm, they can plug in their phones and try to contact someone else, [and] they can get a warm meal.”
The Heat and Hope outreach also goes beyond meeting physical needs. Mock says, “These circumstances have led them to the one place where they hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“They hear the hope of the Gospel. They hear of an eternal hope that is undimmed by the continued assault of this war – that as the world becomes its hardest, clarity in seeing God becomes its greatest.”
It costs $2,800 to provide one generator to a church in Ukraine that will impact several families in that community.
