International (MNN) — A spiritual freedom ministry helps people caught in sin realize who God truly is and walk into freedom.
Dean Vander Mey with Set Free says, “Fear is an emotion. Usually in fear, we try to run and hide or protect. Oftentimes our emotions lead us into making wrong choices that lead us farther away from God. We run and hide from God, and we make excuses. Both of those things keep us in bondage.”
But God invites people to step out of the darkness of addiction, fear and shame and into His forgiveness.
“I can’t tell you how many people at Set Free over the last 27 years have said, ‘I have committed the unpardonable sin.’ They actually believe they have,” says Vander Mey.
“A lot of people believe that because the enemy wants them to think that there’s nothing they could do to ever get God’s love again, and that’s simply not true.”
Whether people are struggling with fear, depression, addictions or anxiety, Set Free volunteers and leaders want them to know freedom God’s way.
Passages such as 1 John 1:9 and 1 John 4:18 lead people to confess their sin and grasp the hope they have in Christ.
“We have all kinds of people here that are having all kinds of addiction issues. When they realize that God can forgive them, the alcohol abuse and the drug addictions oftentimes go away, because usually that’s a symptom of a much deeper issue,” Vander Mey says.
“When they know that God can forgive them and they’re loved, perfect love drives out all fear. The shame is gone, the fear is gone, and all of a sudden, they’re back in fellowship with God because they’ve heard the word of truth and they have obeyed truth.”
If you or someone you know is caught in a cycle of addiction, depression, fear or other life-dominating realities, don’t stay there. Reach out to Set Free for hope and help from God’s Word today.
