Iran (MNN) — Iran tightens its grip on power as the opposition advances.
Iran’s Parliament toughened hijab penalties for women on Tuesday – mere days after protestors marked the anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death. Meanwhile, Iran’s resistance movement gains support abroad.
More than 120 world leaders endorse the National Council of Resistance of Iran and its President-elect, Maryam Rajavi, as the democratic alternative to the current regime. In a recent speech to European leaders, former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt called for support of the opposition.
“[The] Iranian government is on its way down because it has lost its credibility and control over the people. The people have rejected the government, so [officials are] holding on to power by violence, intimidation, and fear,” Dr. Hormoz Shariat with Iran Alive Ministries says.
“They’re using financial resources to elongate to sustain the length of the government, but it will go down sooner or later.”
Last September, 22-year-old Mahsa Amini became Iran’s “Mockingjay” when her death at the hands of morality police sparked months of nationwide unrest. Today, former members of the regime are turning against the institution.

If the current regime falls, it could pave the way for greater freedoms for believers. Only time will tell. Shariat isn’t sure if Iranian Christians are ready for the shift.
“Pray for the Church. There is no strong base of [the] church in Iran. There are millions of Muslim background believers in Iran, but they’re scattered,” Shariat says.
“They’re not connected, and most are babies in Christ.”
Find your place in the story. “Number one, be awake, see what God is doing worldwide. He is making history in Iran,” Shariat says.
“Number two, get involved. Align yourself with the work of God, with the heart of God, and you will become a history maker.”
