Lebanon (MNN) — As Lebanon’s economy falls apart, the education sector continues to suffer. That makes the work of the Lebanese Society for Educational and Social Development (LSESD) even more important.
Beirut Baptist School and the SKILD special education program offer an inclusive environment for kids with learning differences. Wissam Nasrallah says, “Providing education, which is the best investment we can make for the future, is crucial and necessary. The role of schools like Beirut Baptist School is essential, not only from an educational perspective but also from a spiritual one.”
“As our country is falling deeper into the abyss, more and more people are asking questions or facing massive doubts about life.”
Most students at these schools come from non-Christian families. Nasrallah says it’s a great opportunity to demonstrate Jesus’ love. “People all around us are desperate for hope. But they are also very thirsty for truth. And this is where LSESD, throughout its six ministries but also the 50 churches that we work with, needs to be present, to step up, and be faithful witnesses.”

Education for refugees
LSESD provides education to many kids who otherwise would not have access. This is true not only regarding special education but also among Syrian refugees. LSESD’s MERATH arm operates eight non-formal education centers that mostly serve refugee kids.
Nasrallah says it’s all done with the support of the local churches. “So it’s very valuable for these families and children to learn and grow. But they also have a community that cares for them, loves them, and knows them by name. This is what the local church can offer through these programs.”
