Lebanon (MNN) — As Lebanon continues to struggle through a crippling financial crisis, Beirut Baptist School provides more than education.
Julia Wallace, a development officer with parent ministry LSESD, says, “The mission of the school is becoming more holistic, it’s walking alongside families. Just recently, the school gave out food boxes and vouchers to every family in the school, just as an act of solidarity and love. We recognize that many families have lost jobs and income. They are just completely stressed about how to keep their students at the school.”
Wallace says service like this transforms the K-12 schools into a way to break down religious barriers. “Most of our students come from non-Christian backgrounds, over 90%. Families are asking why we are doing this for them when they are not part of our own religious affiliation. But they know our Christian mission, they know our Christian identity. Through the all-encompassing support of the school, we’re able to witness in ways that direct evangelism maybe wouldn’t have as strong of an impact in this context.”
Ask God to give the leaders at BBS wisdom. They seek to make their decisions in a way that shows who Jesus is and how much he loves all people.
