Haiti (MNN) — Hurricane Iota has intensified to Category 5 as it bears down on Central America. The National Hurricane Center says it could be even more devastating than Hurricane Eta from two weeks ago.
The Atlantic Ocean has seen 30 named storms and hurricanes this year, smashing the record number of 28 from 2005.
Eva DeHart with For Haiti with Love says this season of hurricanes and storms has made ministry in Haiti very difficult.
“They’ve had a lot of mudslides,” DeHart says. “The city of Cap-Haitien was pretty much just one big mud puddle. Cars couldn’t navigate the streets because they were getting stuck…. They didn’t even get a chance to clean up between storms so it has just kept accumulating.”

Thankfully, For Haiti with Love’s headquarters are pretty high up in the Haitian mountains and stable enough during storms. But their burn clinic’s numbers have increased.
“In the efforts to dry themselves out and to illuminate their homes, there were a lot more fire accidents than we normally get. So it’s been really, really busy in the clinic as a result of all the storms.”
As For Haiti with Love serves and heals, they minister God’s love to every person they meet. DeHart says, “We can be thankful that we’re still here to do His work.”
One of the best things you can do to help For Haiti with Love is give to their mission. “The more money we have, the more people we can help to rebuild their homes that have been damaged and get them ready for the next storm,” DeHart says.
Then, pray “for the energy to keep up with the increases in the burn clinic activity and in the efforts to help the people around us who are suffering from losses and damage from the storm.”
