MNN’s own heads to Nepal with OM

Nepal (MNN) — At Mission Network News, our passion is telling stories to make you pray, give, or go. And sometimes, they make us do the same.

Lindsay Steele has spent nearly the last two years working at Mission Network News as a student writer from Cornerstone University. Through her work, she connected with Operation Mobilization and now that she’s graduated, she is spending the summer in Nepal with OM.

“Mission Network News is a partner with Operation Mobilization…one of our interns, she mentioned another girl had gone on an Operation Mobilization internship to the Near East, and it was really cool sounding. So I contacted this girl…and she told me about what all she had done,” Steele explains.

The idea of really engulfing herself in another culture and learning from the people drew Steele in. She had always held a special interest in her heart for the Near and Middle Easts. It wasn’t long before she filled out the tedious paperwork, as is the case with any and all paperwork, to begin her journey.

Unfortunately, because of conflicting dates. Steele was unable to secure a position in the Middle East. It was, however, through this road bump Steele was introduced to Nepal and the great needs the country has.

“My coordinator, she sent me another list of where I could go as a photographer and as a journalist and among those was Nepal. You know, they had the earthquake last year and there’s been so much going on in the past year ever since. So I’ve been reporting on that…it really drew my attention.”

While in Nepal, Steele will photograph and write articles on OM’s work in the country. She’ll also have the chance to talk to locals and learn about them and their stories and how OM has impacted their lives. OM works in the country to provide supplies, resources, and to help local churches better serve their communities.

However, Steele says the chances of having learned about this internship are very slim if she hadn’t worked at Mission Network News.

“I would never have even known about these ministries. Or probably even Nepal, you know. I would’ve heard about the earthquake, but that’s about it. It’s really a God thing and learning about these ministries has been incredible.”

Would you join us in praying for Steele as she encounters God in new ways and serves Him in Nepal? Pray for her protection, her growth, the impact she will have on the people she encounters, and for all Nepalis to come to know Christ. Maybe even through her.

Sometimes, interactions like this are simply a God thing. Safe travels, Lindsay.
