Lebanon (MNN) — Refugees in Lebanon are running out of room. Meanwhile, World Mission is helping them unlock the doors to eternal life.
According to Middle East Monitor, refugees in Lebanon are dying at an increasing rate. While there are no official statistics, the main causes of death are thought to be road accidents, fires, and snowstorms.
Syrian refugees are having to leave the bodies of their dead loved ones at the door of religious offices because there’s no space to bury them.
It’s a new layer of despair for people who have already suffered inconceivable pain.
“It’s unbelievableā¦ [These] people have literally lost everything,” shares World’s Mission’s Greg Kelley in a recent field report.
“They’ve come here just with the clothes on their back and their children underneath their arms, just struggling to survive.”
Lebanon is the first entry-point for most people fleeing Syria. While a great number of refugees kept moving on after crossing the border, a significant portion stayed.
“These refugees are coming to the country of Lebanon, and they’re finding love in the arms of the Body of Christ. It’s an unbelievable sight,” Kelley says.
Along with help for immediate physical needs (food, water, shelter, etc.), World Mission is giving believers the tools they need to reach refugees in Lebanon for Christ. Audio Bibles called The Treasure allow listening groups of 8-12 refugees to hear God’s Truth in their heart language–often for the very first time.
Referring to a recent mission trip, Kelley says, “The thing that has encouraged us more than anything is the hunger for the Word of God. We’ve seen people respond to the Gospel; they’re coming to know Jesus.
“The other thing that’s amazed us is the love of the Church in Lebanon and how it is just a source of love and compassion, as they minister to these precious people, these Syrian refugees.”
