USA (MNN) — So much can take place over the span of a year.
Keys for Kids Ministries changed their name, moved to a new location, and added an online network, all so they could expand their ministry further to children.
Another change is taking place. Executive director Terre Ritchie announced her plans for retirement.
Ritchie has been part of the organization for more than 25 years and has brought people into new frontiers, including leading 16 mission groups to Romania. Now that she is retiring, she hopes to expand her own personal ministry.
The question is: how will this affect the ministries’ momentum? Ritchie said, “We really hope the ministry just keeps rolling at the speed it’s at right now. We just seem to be coming up with things that God lays on our hearts and minds every single day to do for kids.”
Ritchie said, “I’m smart enough to realize that this is a children’s ministry, and I know that a lot of things change in technology and things of that sort throughout the years.”
The Karen McCullough Web site reported the journalist Anna Quindlen retired partially because she thought baby boomers needed to step aside and give the younger generation a chance at leading and a chance at change.
A committee has started searching for Ritchie’s replacement. “I really want to have someone come into this position that would be really on top of the technological part of it,” she says. “I think that requires maybe a younger person to do that, and still somebody with managing skills and people skills, and [someone] that loves kids.”
Ritchie continues, “Leadership is like walking on a tightrope. You have to keep a perfect balance between your relationship with God, your relationship with your family, and your relationship to work.”
