Nigeria (MNN) — On November 29, Boko Haram attempted to take over the Nigerian town of Lassa but were resisted. A source told Morning Star News the terrorist group nearly destroyed the town in the process.

On December 3, they attacked again, destroying churches and homes and claiming it as the third town of their caliphate

They killed 11 people and kidnapped 20 women.

Sahara Reporters was told by Daniel Ibrahim, a member of the community, that Boko Haram militants killed mainly old men and women.

Survivors reported that the insurgents had large weaponry, including tanks, bombs, and rifles.

Boko Haram also attacked the town of Shani on November 29. Thousands fled, but many were killed.

Morning Star was told by a Shani survivor that Boko Haram set fire to their churches and burned down their homes. Another survivor reported that the terrorists shot people who fled.

This was the third time the insurgents attacked Shani this year.

Each of these locations is a Christian town, and many church members have been displaced Morning Star said. A little more than half the population in Nigeria is Christian, and Boko Haram is attempting to force believers to convert to Islam.

Countering the hopelessness of violence and terror, World Mission is providing hope through “Treasures:” digital audio Bibles that have a built-in solar panel with rechargeable batteries. World Mission is focusing on providing refugees and hard-to-reach people with the Word of God, sharing the story of Jesus and popular Old and New Testament stories. Each unit costs just $38 and can hold more than 60 hours of material.

World Mission has access to around 5,000 languages. Nearly 200 languages have the entire New Testament available.

One Treasure can reach any amount of people. Studies show 70% of the world prefers a non-literate way to learn.

World Mission Executive Director Greg Kelley relays the story of a woman who loved God,yet had never read a word of the Bible. Instead, she paid someone to read for her. When World Mission gave her a Treasure, “she became a missionary overnight,” Kelley said. She was able to reach people around her and share the Word of God.
